Our Story:
The story of Stein Insurance includes several people, many years and the continuous act of improving and adapting. It’s the story of a man who started a business and included his family. A business that grew to become its own family. A family that is rooted in core values and who continues to progress.
This is the story of Swedish immigrant, Andrew F Stein. He and his brother filed bankruptcy after the failure of their agricultural business in the 1920’s. To re-start, Andrew would sell homeowners and personal auto insurance. Andrew and his very Irish wife Elizabeth McLaughlin spent many evenings visiting customers. They sold insurance to virtually everyone in the local community of St Johns Church in St Paul, Minnesota. It was 1927 and times were difficult. Andrew worked very hard & eventually paid off every single debtor from the bankruptcy.
This is the story of two Sons and Brothers, Andy and Joe, who had only been 13 & 11 years old when they began driving their father to his appointments in Andrew’s older years. They both picked up Andrew’s values of hard work & dedication which had begun our lasting legacy.
Joe returned from the navy after serving in WWII. He was enjoying his work as a plumbing & heating contractor when his brother Andy asked him to join the business. They became a family business. Joe and Andy believed in becoming the best you can be in whatever you choose to do. They highly valued education, hard work and forward movement. Always with integrity and always with enthusiasm! By reflecting these principles in daily work they became valued advisors to their clients. The two brothers were true mentors to their employees and their hearts were intent on providing a purposeful and fulfilling workplace for all who worked with them. Joe & Andy did so by instilling these values in their employees, encouraging them to stretch their limits and then letting go, empowering them through recognition of their own accomplishments. Nobody admired Joe and embraced his values more than his son Jim.
This is the story of James Stein. A young man who emulated his father and dedicated much of himself to making him proud. Jim knew at an early age that he wanted to one day follow his dad’s calling. When asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, Jim was the only third grader that responded “insurance agent!”. In 1972 Jim began his insurance career only 8 months after graduating high school. Following the values he was taught; Jim worked hard and obtained his college degree from the University of Minnesota. He did this while working at the Insurance (then located in St. Paul). Jim also gained designations as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). He built his own clientele and became a confidant and advisor to his clients, his family of employees and to the insurance industry itself. Jim’s commitment to the industry led him in 2007 to become president of the Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents Association. Here he worked to build and strengthen the viability of the independent Insurance system.
This is the story of Margaret (Stein) Corradi (Jim’s sister) who joined the Insurance in 1992. Margaret studied accounting at the University of St. Catherines while working at the Insurance. She then went on to work at a large national commercial insurance brokerage in the Twin Cities. Margaret worked in the marketing department and was responsible for putting client submissions together, marketing clients to insurance carriers, and negotiating pricing and terms. When Margaret came on, she brought a fresh perspective and commercial lines expertise to the Insurance. She built out the commercial arm of Stein Insurance and mentored a new department within the Insurance. Margaret also holds her CIC and CPCU designations.
Today, a new brother/sister duo is stepping in to carry on the tradition of excellence. In 2023 Megan (Corradi) Carroll and Mike Corradi became fourth-generation owners. With a diverse and innovative team by their side, they are poised to lead Stein Insurance into a future defined by purpose, fulfillment, and unparalleled service to their clients and community.
